Your journey begins early as we pick you up from your Cusco hotel at 3:00 a.m. and set off on a scenic 4-hour drive to Soraypampa, a serene spot at 12,631 feet (3,850 meters) above sea level and the gateway to the Salkantay trek. Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a delicious, energizing breakfast, fueling you for the adventure ahead.
From Soraypampa, we’ll start our hike through breathtaking landscapes, with the snow-capped peaks of Salkantay and Humantay towering in the distance. The trek to Humantay Lake takes approximately 1.5 hours, beginning with a gentle trail before ascending to an elevation of 13,780 feet (4,200 meters). While the climb is challenging, the reward is unforgettable: the mesmerizing turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, surrounded by rugged peaks and untouched beauty.
Once at the lake, you’ll have plenty of time to soak in the incredible views, take photos, and even participate in a traditional tribute to the Apus, the sacred mountain spirits. After enjoying the tranquility, we’ll begin our descent back to Soraypampa—an easier, more relaxing hike that takes about 1.5 hours.
Back at Soraypampa, a well-deserved lunch awaits before we return to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 p.m.
